About Counter-Strike 2
Counter-Strike 2 is the current entry for players looking for the modern competitive Counter-Strike experience. Teams manage their economy, coordinate equipment and fight over map objectives. Source 2 changes the presentation and smoke behavior, but useful habits still include learning callouts, controlling recoil and communicating clearly. Start with practice before making ranked matches your first stop.
If you are looking for the earlier Global Offensive rules and maps specifically, see the separate CS:GO page. Check the client required by your server or demo; this is a different download from the current CS2 game.
Free access and Prime Status
The base CS2 client is free. Prime Status is a separate upgrade with its own matchmaking and item eligibility rules. Check the current requirements for the mode you plan to play; downloading the client does not automatically add Prime to your account.
Performance before competitive play
Test a real map with smoke and several players instead of judging performance from the menu. Compare frame stability as well as average FPS. CS 1.6 and Source requirements cannot be used to predict CS2 performance: the engine and graphics requirements are different.

Steam lists Windows 10, a CPU with four hardware threads (Core i5-750 or better), 8 GB RAM, a graphics card with at least 1 GB VRAM and DirectX 11 / Shader Model 5.0 support, plus 85 GB disk space. Allow extra room for updates.

Is Prime included with the free download?
No. The free client and Prime Status are different entitlements. Check your Steam account before buying an upgrade.
Will a PC that runs CS 1.6 run CS2?
Not necessarily. CS2 needs much newer graphics capabilities and more memory; compare the listed hardware requirements directly.
